Rebecca J. Vander Meulen is a photographer and community development facilitator who has been based in the province of Niassa in northern Mozambique since 2003.

She aims to capture glimpses of the dignity and complexity of human experience through her lens.

Her photography has appeared in various publications, including on the cover of The Global Game: Writers on Soccer, in Bread for the World Institute’s annual Hunger Reports, and in National Geographic.

She brings first-hand understanding of the realities of international development to her photography. She has a Master of Public Health degree in International Health (concentration in Community Health and Development) from Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University, and a BS in biology (with minors in International Development Studies and Archaeology) from Calvin College. Her work has been recognized through the Diocese of London’s St. Mellitus Medal (Order of St. Mellitus) and through the Matthew Lee Girvin Young Alumni Award from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University.
